The Bedfordshire vision for learning 14-19 

www.bedfordshireprospectus.org.uk is an on-line prospectus which has been created by Bedfordshire County Council, Connexions and the Learning and Skills Council – it is a key part of Bedfordshire’s 14 – 19 strategy; The Vision for Learning.

The Vision for Learning has been prepared by the Bedfordshire 14-19 Strategic Forum and is shared by all of its members. The forum is lead by senior officers of Bedfordshire County Council and the Learning and Skills Council (Bedfordshire and Luton) and includes representatives from schools, colleges of further education, the Connexions Partnership, Education Business Partnership and the University of Bedfordshire.

Our vision: to transform secondary and post-secondary education so that all young people achieve to their potential and continue in structured learning at least until the age of 18.


Our aim: to ensure that our young people become better prepared for work, for further learning and for adult life in the 21st Century.

Our task: to become much more effective in meeting the needs of young people aged 14-19, and of employers.

Our approach: to work together to ensure a high quality curriculum provision which will:

• offer young people a wider range of courses;
• ensure all young people have better opportunities for progression;
• be better matched to the needs of employers;
• increase the proportion of learners progressing to degree level qualifications;
• re-engage the disaffected;
• meet the needs of learners with disabilities and other difficulties in accessing provision;
• be cost effective;

and most importantly….

• lead to better results.

This prospectus shows the range of courses available to young people aged 14-19 across schools, colleges, and the providers of work based learning.
